The club scene in Berlin is as multifarious as it is rich. Yet there is no such thing as the Berlin sound, rather: Berlin resonates every which way with endless sonic surprises.
Club transmediale is itself a child of that great and wonderful early 90s stamping ground.
It was initially founded as the musical sub-department of the major transmediale festival for video arts and digital culture, and certainly no other festival in Germany currently succeeds with such sovereignty in walking the tightrope between courageous programming and mischievous fun.
The mammoth collection, with 31 tracks and artists spread over 2 CDs, "covers" the editions of 2006 and 2007: CD1 is based on exclusive, unreleased live recordings from CTM.06, which promoted the theme of BEING BOLD!
When this attitude were applied in the creation of music and art, the results were as radically diverse as the performing artists themselves: Marc Marcovic & The Kings of Patagonia, Candie Hank, Volcano The Bear, Hanne Hukkelberg, Christopher Just, Like a Tim, Otto Von Schirach, Jimmy Edgar, Maruosa, Next Life, Radius, Anne Laplantine, Mendoza, Frivolous and Ignaz Schick.
CD2 gives a sneak preview at what you might have experienced in Berlin from Jan 25th to Feb 3rd 2007, when the new edition was held with the motto of BUILDING SPACE, with fresh studio offerings from the likes of Liz Allbee, Jazkamer, Pole, Rechenzentrum, Tigrics, AZ Rotator, Omar Souleyman Band, Clark, Vulva String Quartet, Noze, Onur Ozer, Svalastog, Birchville Cat Motel, O.S.T, Robert Henke and Rafael Toral.
