(choices are alphabetized, not in order of preference)
Chefkirk & Hal McGee-Nimbus ~Haltapes~ (two artists using "no-input mixers" mutate the world of noises macro>micro into bio-cellular environments, fascinating from beginning to end)
Don Campau-Lilly Pad ~Lonely Whistle~ (brilliantly conceived, Campau creates "field recordings" with all sorts of instrumental sounds, lush and metaphorical ambient music. an album in need of a wider audience!)
Gil Scott-Heron-I'm New Here ~XL Recordings~ (one of the biggest surprises of 2010 was Gil Scott's return. the haggard, reaching-for-notes voice that now passes for a ghost of what the man once was embodies the transcendence from our own human failings)
Kuwahara-Honeycult ~Waiting World Records~ (to encompass all the sounds of the world and create reckless, noisy beauty from them in a multitude of forms, breathtaking!)
Josh Lay- Rotted Afterlife ~Urashima~ (Josh Lay traverses deep industrial territory on this mystery-driven noise album, place this next to your Eraserhead soundtrack)
Meatgrinder-First Innocent ~Smell The Stench~ (Hal Hutchinson is one of the best of the new wave of power electronics practitioners. his work is stern, ponderous, powerful and frightening. this album exemplifies how well that approach works in the context of extreme psycho-sexuality)
Mystified-Passing Through The Outer Gates ~First Fallen Star~ (seeming to be the new Klaus Schulze, or perhaps Eduard Artemiev, Mystified creates a bizarre and fantastic symphonic electronic soundtrack to a movie that doesn't exist)
Oval-Oh ~Thrill Jockey~ (the glitching permutations sound familiar, in a good way, then the (programmed?) acoustic drums kick in and you realize that this is actually jazz)
Jeremy Pelt-Men Of Honor ~Highnote Records~ (a spot-on rewrite of classic Blue Note-era records that, without nostalgia, rediscovers a progressive style of music making that should never disappear)
C. Reider-Fragment Three Re-Works ~Vuzh Music~ (questionable choice? a remix album that uses some of my own sounds? but in this case, i can't feel guilty because the end result is so different from, and so much better than, the original! a wondrous turning and re-turning, a truly beautiful release)
Sir Bear Trapper-The Solo Album! ~Le Scrambled Discs~ (i can listen to Allan Zane's strange sound worlds over and over! this disc, and the things he puts out as Le Scrambled Debutante, are beyond one-take comprehension since these sonic environments are stretched, mutated and re-wrought in the most unusual ways...)
Swamp Horse-Perpetual Drip ~Husk Records~ (synth-drone evolution of dark metal, transformative, spiritual even!)
David S. Ware-Saturnian (Solo Saxophones, Volume 1) ~Aum Fidelity~ (Fantastic improvisations melodically rising higher and higher, never letting the burning intensity of life-breath extinguish)
Hype Williams-Untitled ~Carnivals~ (my chill-out pick when indulging in recreational preferences)
Chefkirk & Hal McGee-Nimbus ~Haltapes~ (two artists using "no-input mixers" mutate the world of noises macro>micro into bio-cellular environments, fascinating from beginning to end)
