Stephan Mathieu - Radioland

Those who know Stephan Mathieu primarily remember him for the beautiful “The Sad Mac” dated 2004.
Afterward his creative path includes a collaboration with Janek Schaefer (“Hidden Name”), another with Akira Rabelais (“Quien Era Aquella”) and a live recording taken from a Portuguese performance of “Radioland”, which is now a studio work issued by Die Schachtel.
Stephan therefore returns to a solo recording: seven tracks, an unique design, shortwave radio signals submitted to real-time processing.
The result is a hypnotic repetition of these generated waves, producing a "wrapping around" effect seeped through a melodic vein.
So, a stream of whirling drones takes shape in “Raphael“, “Gabriel” and “Michael”, substantially similar except for slight variations of tones, each fading away, leaving place to the next piece.
The same happens for the subsequent three ones.
Emotional atmospheres which culminate in the last (and maybe the most impressive) “Prolog Im Himmel” where manipulations of a female voice are also added to complete the enchantment.
