Books: Guillaume Belhomme - Giant Steps

Writing an anthology of jazz is a task hard to handle: the major difficulties depend on how to gather and arrange lots of data avoiding to be verbose, choosing a structure which permits an agile reading.
"Giant Steps" is a good example: exhaustive but not redundant, wisely conceived and pretty well written.
It contains 100 portraits including most of the jazz masters, 500 releases of them intelligently reviewed (five significant works of each artist and other listening suggestions).
"Giant Steps" gives, after all, a complete analysis of the jazz world and its incredible nuances, embracing a period of over a century (from the origins to today, from the first protagonists to the contemporary guidelines, chronologically ordered according to the date of birth of the artists), narrated in 400 pages by a connoisseur, writer, musician and, obviously, fan of this music.
Essential book for the ones who want to approach to this culture, necessary compendium for those who can't do without it.
