Alfredo Costa Monteiro - Epicycle

Visual artist, concerned with visual/sound poetry, refined musician, active in multiple projects and collaborative experiences (Cremaster with Ferran Fages, I Treni Inerti with Ruth Barberán, Neumática with Pablo Rega) Alfredo Costa Monteiro could be imagined into a solitary place of the electro-acoustic improvisation universe.
His research doesn’t pass through consolidate schemes of experimentation, his interest refers to unexplored possibilities to treat the sound acoustically and digitally.
This work, “Epicycle”, consists of one track, 38 minutes long, built on a drone implant that suffers multiform interferences, a recursive and almost unrecognizable Alfredo’s processed voice, incidental incursions of flowing effects.
Music with a palpable sense of purity, quite impressive.

Murmer - We Share A Shadow

Patrick McGinley (Murmer) is a sound researcher who does not limit his field of action to environmental recordings.
He has also interest in producing sounds through objects which he manipulates into these spaces.
His previous works have been released by several important labels of the genre (Absurd, Drone Records, ICR, Ground Fault) and now is the time of Helen Scarsdale Agency.
“We Share A Shadow” has two long tracks where some collected field recordings are filtered by Patrick's perspective, obtaining, as a result, surrounding atmospheres, drone-oriented textures, hypnotic effects.

Mats Gustafsson / Johan Berling / David Stackenäs / Magnus Broo - Boots Brown

A Swedish quartet formed by a reedist (Mats Gustafsson), a trumpeter (Magnus Broo), David Stackenäs on guitar and Johan Bertling on bass.
Their debut album is a blend of free improvisation and experimental jazz (perhaps with a prevalence of this last aptitude).
"Boots Brown" leaves a sensation of a substantial uniformity, despite the presence of recurring changes of phase; the sound transmits a concrete melancholy and appears surrounded by a clouded light.
      A work of rare intimacy.

Stephen Gauci's Basso Continuo - Nididhyasana

The name of this ensemble points out the presence of two double basses (Michael Bisio, Ingebrigt Haker-Flaten) matched with the trumpet of Nate Wooley and the Gauci’s saxophone; the name of this work takes inspiration from a type of Hindu meditation.
Meditative is perhaps the most appropriate term to describe this release.
"Nididhyasana" fascinates with its abrupt rhythm variations, its whispered melodic tones, its absence of percussion that exalts the exchanges between wind instruments and strings.
Stephen Gauci’s creativity at maximum levels...

      Bowline - Bowline

After three years of silence, Sonoris is back in 2007 with two releases: a Kozo Inada’s work and this CD, titled “Bowline” as well as those who conceived it.
Bowline is a duo of musicians: David Maranha (Osso Exótico, plus a soloist activity) who plays hammond organ, violin and electronics whereas Francesco Dillon (firstly member of Alter Ego group) deals with the cello.
Based on four tracks, it's a work of absolute uniformity and simplicity (these elements make it beautiful) that would not disfigure if compared with other illustrious pieces of minimalistic tradition.
The first three tracks are linked in a continuous progression, dominated by a melodic flow, that generates a crepuscular atmosphere. The fourth is almost similar, but more structured, with a variety of resonant textures and incidental drones, hypnotic fluctuations, cello vibrations.
Undoubtedly a successful interaction between these two artists.

      Label: Sonoris
